Radio Merit Badge Day

Saturday January 10, 2009

Sarnoff Corporation Auditorium

Princeton New Jersey

Are you interested in helping people during disasters?  Want to learn about satellites and high tech electronics?  Want your computer to connect around the world via wireless?  Think it would be cool to talk to Astronauts in space?

Then explore the world of wireless communications through Radio Merit Badge!  To help you complete the badge in one day, a Radio Merit Badge course will be held Saturday, January 10, 2009 at the Sarnoff Corporation Library, 201 Washington Road, Princeton, NJ 08540-6449.  The course is limited to the first sixty Scouts who register.  Adults interested in learning about radio are welcome to participate.

Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Complete the application below and mail it by December 15, 2008 to:

Gary Wilson

123 Main Street

Anytown, NJ 08690-1345

  1. Read the 2008 or newer Radio Merit Badge pamphlet from pages 1 to 67.  You do not have to build the crystal radio, but it's fun!.
  2. Draw the chart of the Electromagnetic Spectrum (Requirement 3 a, b, c) before the class and bring it with you.  That way you’ll be less rushed during the course.
  3. Bring the following to the class:
    1. A fully completed Merit Badge Application card for Radio Merit Badge signed by your Scoutmaster.
    2. Your completed chart of the Electromagnetic Spectrum.
    3. Evidence of any requirements you may have completed in advance.
    4. A bag lunch and drink.
    5. A pen and pencil.
    6. A notebook or clipboard to write on.
    7. Proper uniform, good behavior and interest!
  4. Report to the Sarnoff Corporation Auditorium entrance by 8:45 AM on Saturday morning.  If your leaders or parents aren’t staying, make sure that you are picked up at 3:00 PM.

If you have any questions about the course, DO NOT call Sarnoff Corporation.  Call Gary Wilson at 609-555-1212 or email spam@spamhome.net instead.

Driving Directions

To get to Sarnoff Corporation, take US Route 1 to Fisher Place (just north of Washington Road).  Head east on Fisher Place until it ends.  Turn left and the main Sarnoff Entrance is ahead of you.  Turn left around the circle and proceed to the Library entrance.
